Larry Shahboz (the promoter’s father) was an avid swing dancer as a youth. He and his sister, Judy, danced up and down the east coast tearing up dance floors and winning a few contests in the process.
Later in life, both Larry and Judy were diagnosed with blood cancers.
Sadly, Larry lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma in 2005, but his sister remains in remission after going through treatment for Leukemia.
The dance serves as a way to memorialize Mr. Shahboz and raise awareness and funds to research, find new treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and provide critical education, services and support to patients and families battling these cancers.
